The Hotel Amazon Bed & Breakfast serves as the perfect base in Leticia to appreciate wildlife and flora in the Amazon region in Leticia and its surroundings through our eco-friendly excursion activities. All year round there's lots of wildlife to be seen in the Amazon region, including monkeys, ocelots and dolphins, and array of birdlife. We arrange day tours and rainforests excursions in and around Leticia as well as visits to indigenous villages which will give you a unique insight to life in the Amazonas.

The following excursions can be booked through our on-line booking system together with your bungalow. If you are staying in Leticia less than 5 days we strongly recommend booking your excursions in advance. The most popular and varied excursions are the ones to Puerto Nariño and Isla de Los Micos..

Excursions can be booked for minimum two persons. Excursions for one person can be arranged upon request. In our booking system you can see the rates for the excursions. Excursions have an additional cost if you require an English speaking guide. Excursion operators have different rates for the service, so this service has to be arranged in Leticia.

Puerto Nariño & Tarapoto lakes

Starting in Leticia, this run on the great Amazon River gives you a wonderful opportunity to appreciate and admire the diversity of the eco systems and life in and on the Amazon River. We will be able to appreciate the world’s largest lotus, the Victoria Regia. Upriver we will find a community of Tikuna native tribesmen: Macedonia, a perfect place to admire the handicrafts designed and crafted by the inhabitants, especially tapestries and dolls made of yanchama (tree bark), beautiful accessories made from seeds and feathers, spectacular carrying bags woven with chambira, and a great variety of objects such as pensadores, walking sticks, belt buckles and necklaces made of palosangre (brosimum rubescens taub), a very fine type of wood and of great cultural value for many of the native communities of the region.

The trip continues to Puerto Nariño, the second largest municipality in the area and also known as the manger of Colombia; a very typical village inhabited by natives and colonos (settlers). We will navigate to Tarapoto Lakes, a place inhabited by a great variety of species such as grey and pink dolphins, manatees, alligators, anacondas, and the largest fish with scales, the pirarucu. We will visit the Amacayacu National Natural Park, a protected area on the Colombian Amazon, known for its great biodiversity of flora and fauna. During the excursion through the Park we will appreciate 100-year-old trees like the Amazonian Ceiba (God-tree)

La Isla de los Micos

Around 45 minutes upriver from Leticia you will find La Isla de los Micos , Monkey Island, this 45 hectares natural reserve is specially known for its abundance of different monkeys. The elevated walkways and platforms through out the area give a real close-up experience. The special behavior, intricate social organization, reproduction and feeding habits will be thoroughly explained by our local native Indian guide. Navigating through the periodically flooded areas and Lake Tucuchira gives a unique insight to the ecosystem of the aquatic life in the Amazon. Enjoy the breathtaking and fascinating fauna and flora while exploring hidden waterways through the rainforest. A delicious buffet lunch will be served, accompanied by local fruit juices.

Excursion to a natural reserve in Peru

Visit a natural reserve in Peru on a full day excursion. The natural reserve is a 45 minutes boat ride from Leticia. On this excursion you feel that you are in the middle of the Amazon rainforest. The walk through a broad path into the jungle with its huge trees and varied vegetation can be recorded best, by photographic images or video, also contemplating the landscape with its fauna species such as monkeys, butterflies and multicolored birds. On this excursion you will do jungle walks and canoeing explorations. You will see a lot of animals and be able to relax at the reserve in a hammock.

Leticia by foot

Leticia, the capital of the Colombian Amazon, is a small town perfect to explore by foot. Visit the Ethnographic Museum of the Amazonian Man where you can appreciate an ample collection of objects and utensils used by various Indian cultures; stroll through the parks and streets of the city where you will find a wide range of handicraft shops and boutiques. You may also taste and purchase the famous Amazon aphrodisiac drink chuchuhuaza, extracted from the bark of a local tree.

Bicycle trip to Tabatinga (Brazil)

Two-hour run by bicycle to the Brazilian frontier city Tabatinga, where we can pick up few words of Portuguese, appreciate a some Brazilian architecture, buy famous Azaleia or Havaianas sandals, Brazilian handicrafts and the famous Garoto chocolates.

Nighttime safari

The red eyes of the alligators will follow every move of the boat as we carefully glide through the dark night. The Saraiva Lakes are perfect examples of the unique and diverse ecosystems developed in the tributaries of the Amazon; each lake has its own ecosystem depending on size and surroundings. One of the many species we can find here is the black alligator, up to 6.5 meters. It is an important predator and feeds on fish, tapirs and other mammals. The black alligator is under protection as hunting has seriously reduced the population.

Bird watching

Colombia has the world’s richest bird population, with more than 800 different species found in the Amazon jungle. This excursion will give the opportunity to admire and appreciate the wonders of nature, exotic bird specimens and some endemic ones such as Brotogeris versicolurus, the Tyrannus albogularis, Piuri - Crax globulosa and others. An introduction to the magical world of birds by an ornithologist makes the Bird Watching excursion special. This will help you identify and enjoy the concert and color of unimaginable species during this walk through the Amazon jungle. The activity will take place in two areas, depending on the season of high waters or low waters. One of the options is in the area of La Milagrosa, which includes a pleasant walk of approximately 2 hours through small villages. The other alternative is a 25 minutes boat ride from Leticia on the Amazon to the beautiful Isla Gamboa inhabited by a wide variety of exotic birds. This is a two hour trip around the island.

Kayaking in the Yahuarcaca lakes

The Amazon is a humid tropical forest acting as an environmental thermo regulator and recipient of the mega biodiversity as well as a genetic source of fauna and flora.

The Yahuarca lakes offer a unique encounter with nature as you can paddle through the flooded jungle during the wet season(wintertime) surrounded by rubber trees, red cedar, mahogany and capirona; the great renaco with its aerial roots and its magical environment. The slow paddling through the jungle gives never ending opportunities to see birds (herons, tuqui-tuqui, needle ducks, kingfisher, arrendajos, oropéndolas, eagles, hawks) different mammals (sloths, pink and grey dolphins) and reptiles, amphibians, fish, insects and a range of plants without precedence such as the famous Victoria Regia (world’s largest lotus).A Spanish speaking guide and expert of this unique region will be with you all the time.

Includes: Land transport, kayak for two persons with life jackets and paddles, professional Spanish speaking guide, refreshments.
Recommendations: Lightweight clothing, hat, repellent, bathing suit, tennis shoes or wet shoes, sun block, an additional set of clothes. Do not carry valuable objects which may fall in the lake.
Note: Please take into account that this excursion requires a good physical condition. The excursion guide reserves the right to reject any participant who does not fulfill this requirement, without reimbursement.

Canopy Tour

A unique  experience on the top of the trees. A three platform system one kilometer inside the jungle where you climb 35 meters and have the opportunity to slide from one tree to another. One canopy tour of 35 meters and another of 110 meters.  You`ll be above the forest floor and view the jungle life.
